Any Bangalorean worth his salt will tell you that Bangalore is in it’s element during Ugadi or the Kannada New Year. The city comes to life like never before. Shops spring up everywhere, bhajans and hymns ring from every temple, people are all smiles and on the whole, it’s a vibe that spreads joy.
So if you are in Bangalore on the 29th of March, 2017 (it’s a holiday BTW), here are some things that you can do.
1. Eat, Eat, Eat
Ugadi is famous for its signature dishes like Holige, Ugadi pachadi and much more. The primary preparation – Ugadi pachadi is symbolic of life’s various flavors and is a must try. And on Ugadi day, most hotels and eateries will have special buffets and the likes. So if you are here, make sure you have a happy tummy.
2. Shopping!
Well, Bangalore is as famous for shopping as Agra for Taj Mahal. Head to popular street shopping spots like Commercial Street, BDA Complex Jayanagar, Malleswaram etc to get a hang of the hustle-bustle that the city has. If you want a little more posh stuff, head to the malls. Ugadi offers and sales begins a week before and lasts till a few days later sometimes. Make the best of it and splurge on some retail therapy.
3.Go Camping
Yes, Ugadi only lasts a day and it is bang in the middle of the week. But Bangalore does have some spots close by for awesome one day trips. Rent camping gear from us and start on Tuesday evening to get some fresh air away from the bustling city. Kanakpura Nature Adventure Camping, Manchinbele, Savandurga etc are places close to Bangalore that makes camping super fun!
4. Spend time with friends
Round up your friends and go visit some Ugadi special spots. There are plenty of fairs and festivities in the city for you guys to enjoy. Or organize a sleepover at home. Rent beds and mattresses from us and you’re good to go.
5. Gaming!
First of all, never buy gaming equipment unless you are absolutely sure that you won’t become addicted. Research recommends that renting gaming equipment as opposed to buying helps you keep addiction away. So for this Ugadi, how about renting some gaming gear from Guarented and beating your friends at it? If you’re not a fan of stepping out and spending money on shopping/binge eating, gaming is the best way to flex some brain muscles and fingers on a budget.
May This Ugadi Bring You Nothing But Happiness
Festivals are the time to kick back and relax. It is also a time to renew bonds with loved ones. If you are away from your family, speak to them, and wish them even if you are not a native Kannadiga. This one day, let your hair down and take a moment to breathe in all that joy.
From all of us here at team Guarented, here’s wishing you a happy Ugadi and a prosperous year ahead of you.
